IN PERSON: Introduction to Adventure Therapy: Engaging clients in the therapeutic process through the intentional use of adventure activities and initiatives

About this live event

We will learn and understand components of Adventure Therapy and ways in which to utilize experiential interventions. We will review core theories of experiential education and adventure therapy models. We will engage in group adventure therapy activities. We will review clinical topics such as assessment in adventure therapy, adapting activities to match client goals, facilitation strategies and approaches, how to process adventure therapy activities, sequencing activities, and discussing steps therapists should take in order to integrate adventure activities and interventions into their work with clients.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand foundational theories and concepts of adventure therapy.
  • Gain awareness about practical aspects of incorporating adventure therapy into your practice.
  • Gain tools for experiential assessment strategies and know how to select interventions and match them for clinical intent.
  • Implement and practice 3-5 activities/interventions that can be applied in therapeutic practice.

Target Audience

This educational activity is intended for behavioral health professionals and is an approved continuing education opportunity for Psychologists, Social Workers, Counselors, and Marriage and Family Therapists.

  • Tuesdey Spangler

    Tuesdey has been working within mental health and education for the past 15 years with a prior business background. She graduated with her Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Science in Education from the Ohio State University. Tuesdey has worked in various therapeutic settings throughout her career, including school-based, residential, adventure, and wilderness therapy, private practice, home-based, and outpatient settings. She has been a therapist and an assistant clinical director in a residential program. She found her passion for utilizing experience and the natural world's power as an agent for change in her initial work with at-risk youth. She now provides in office and outdoor therapy sessions to individuals, couples, and families.

1. This virtual event will be hosted via Zoom, and you may be prompted to download or upgrade your Zoom app if using a mobile device. A strong WiFi connection will be required for best quality.

Attendee video feeds and mics are turned off by default when entering a webinar, but we would like you to engage with the presenter and attendees by keeping your video on.
