Emotionally Focused Therapy and the TEMP Model: Applying Attachment-Based Tools for Therapeutic Change

CE Hours 2

About this live event

This training provides an in-depth overview of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an attachment-based, experiential model of psychotherapy grounded in attachment science. EFT conceptualizes emotion as a central organizer of human experience and a primary mechanism of therapeutic change. While rooted in attachment theory, EFT interventions, techniques, and change processes are flexible and can be applied across theoretical orientations and adapted to most psychotherapeutic treatment models to address mental and emotional disorders. The training will first present the theoretical foundations of EFT, including its basis in attachment theory and the experiential approach to change in psychotherapy. Participants will then be introduced to the TEMP model for emotional assembly, a practical and structured method for helping clients access, organize, and make meaning of emotional experiences. The TEMP model supports clients in identifying the messages their emotions convey about their worldview, life experiences, values, and goals. It can also be used to deepen understanding of clients’ attachment histories and to recognize how attachment injuries and trauma continue to influence emotional responses and relational patterns in daily life. As an experiential intervention, TEMP guides clients through emotional assembly to promote relief from emotional distress, increased emotional clarity, and greater emotional regulation. This training is designed for practicing clinicians seeking targeted, empirically supported interventions that extend beyond symptom reduction. Participants will learn how to use EFT-informed strategies and the TEMP model to expand clients’ emotional balance, sense of agency, and coherent sense of self, while enhancing clinical effectiveness across a wide range of therapeutic settings.
